The Employment Act 2010 has consolidated and harmonised all the other previous discrimination legislative acts. From this new single policy there emerges a Public Equality Duty that is placed on all public bodies including the NHS.
As part of our commitment to evidence based equality, diversity and human rights and to ensure continuous improvement of our service delivery the Trust publishes Equality Impact Assessments (EIA) on all policies.
An Equality Impact Assessment considers the potential effect the policy, service or practice has on each of the 9 protected characteristics:
- Gender Reassignment
- Pregnancy & Maternity
- Religion and Belief
- Sexual Orientation
- Marriage and Civil
If any barriers to access of services are identified an action plan is published (at the bottom of the EIA) the Diversity Management Group will monitor and progress actions against the identified plan.
