Background/experience

After working within the wheelchair industry, supplying the NHS for over twenty years, I have witnessed both the highs and lows of care provided by the National Health Service. When it is at its best, there is nothing to beat a system that provides free healthcare to anyone who needs it, regardless of status or means. At its worst, the service fails the most vulnerable in society.

I became a governor in the hope that I could use my experiences within the service and my knowledge of the costly, complicated administration system used in the NHS to help to find a way for the community to be better served by a service that is the envy of the world.

Background/experience

I am pleased to have the chance to assist in the on-going success of The Dudley Group and to use my experience at Senior Management level in Industry (Engineering and Defence) to make a positive contribution to future development.

In addition to world wide experience in business, I have visiting lecturer experience at Universities and Colleges, and a sound record of voluntary work in the community, plus past project work with Age Concern .I am also a former member of HM Special Forces.

I believe that the above demonstrates that I can understand the needs of all residents of the area and work with others to deliver the best possible services.

Background/experience

I am a marketing communications professional with over ten years’ experience across both the public and private sector at organisations including Dudley Council, Marketing Birmingham and The NEC Group. I have a good understanding of what makes “good governance” and understand the issues currently faced by the public sector. However more importantly I am a Mum to two gorgeous girls both of whom were born at Russells Hall. Before having children I had never been an in-patient at a hospital however, over the last four years I have experienced several stays with both of my children and a number of departments which has given me a new insight to the patient experience.

Background/experience

After being a member of the Trust for the past two years and taking an interest in the NHS Trust in Dudley, I am pleased to have been elected to serve the Dudley Central area as a Governor.

I am interested in what happens in my community and I am already involved with the Dudley Forum of Older People and Dudley Age Alliance.

I have lived and worked in the Dudley area for the past sixty years and I know my experiences will help me in the position of Governor. I look forward to learning about the role and also look forward with great interest in learning about how the NHS functions in such a large hospital.

Constituency: Public Elected
Representing area: Halesowen
Email address: foundationmembers@dgh.nhs.uk
Contact details: (01384) 321124

Background/experience

I am a long-time resident of Halesowen and retired as a senior manager in Further Education, training and inspection. I was first elected as a governor of the Trust in 2007 and I actively represent the interests of the users of Trust services both from Halesowen and across Dudley.  I am the elected Lead Governor of the Council.

My background in management has enabled me to make a significant contribution to enabling the Council to work effectively to meet its responsibilities in holding Trust Directors to account for the operation of the Trust and representing users of Trust services.

I have particular interests in governance, the effective operation of the Council and patient experience. I chair the Council Governance Committee and the Governor Development Group and visit wards regularly to talk to patients about their experiences while visiting or staying in hospital.

Background/experience

Whilst originally from East Sussex I have lived and worked in Halesowen for thirteen years. I am member of the Foundation Trust and after seeing on open evenings the good work that is carried out by all the medical staff across the Trust I would like to help our local communities have access to all help/care that is available to them.

I was employed in the care sector as an administrator for fifteen years working with the elderly I am also a Dementia Friend, I want to represent the views of the Halesowen people who elected me as a governor and I feel very privileged to live amongst them.

I work part time for a charitable housing trust. I am also a volunteer at the Mary Stevens Hospice. I like to think of myself as a thoughtful, quiet person, someone who gets involved and help others wherever I can.

My ideal perfect start to the day is to start with tea and toast listening to the birds. The kinds of people I like to meet are ones who inspire me through their actions.

Background/experience

Firstly thank you to everyone that voted for me – this is my first year as Governor of the hospital.

The meetings are very interesting, offer a steep learning curve – but I can see that there are a lot of dedicated people striving to improve our NHS.

I have an honours degree in Building Surveying and work full time in a construction company. I am a friendly person with a ‘firm but fair’ work ethic.

I am a community person – carrying out many voluntary roles over the years; WRVS at Russells Hall, leader for a children’s holiday camp for ‘deprived’ children, a cub leader, teacher of rookie life guards and leader for Duke of Edinburgh Award.

My hobbies include jogging (I can run for last orders at the bar), cycling, swimming, walking, reading and red wine!

I can only say that I will do my best for the Trust and people of Dudley, being very willing, conscientious and will be raising lots of questions due to my inquisitive mind.

Background/experience

I am delighted to become a Governor as I feel the time is right for me to give something back to the community. Over a period of several years I have personally received excellent medical care from the Trust and its partners.

Professionally I have been involved in a wide range of business development initiatives across all sectors including the care sector. This is my favourite one which I would like to share with you.

Representing the Chamber of Commerce I was a member of the national strategic team formed to work with the Management Charter Initiative on the development of the National Management Development Standards of Best Practice.  I was then given the mission of cascading these standards across all sectors in the Dudley area and to establish a Crediting Competence Centre for Managers. I was also able to give one to one support to staff across all sectors but in particular care homes, nursing homes and GP surgeries.

As a result of these activities I was awarded a Fellowship of the Institute of Leadership and Management.

Personally I am a fundraiser of a voluntary committee trust for a special school making a difference to children with impairments and learning difficulties.

Background/experience

I am a retired nurse, midwife and practice nurse. I have always had an interest in people from the time I joined the British Red Cross at the age of thirteen.

My experience with members of the the public is wide and varied. I have been involved with different cultures, religions and social classes. I have worked also with numerous different professionals. With a wide and varied mix of people in the community I am hoping that what I can offer members of the public and the Trust will be to the expectations of the people that have put their trust in me when they voted for me as a governor.
