Alan Walker

Background/experience

I have been employed at Dudley by Summit Healthcare for a relatively short time. However, I do bring to the group many years of transferable knowledge and experience as an Engineer and Facilities and Estates professional in both Healthcare and the private sector.

Part of my day job is to act as the PFI interface between the Trust and all the different facets of our service provider Interserve. This includes Maintenance, Catering, Cleaning, Security etc. I also represent Summit at several Trust Operational meetings.

I see part of my role of governor is to take the communication role a step further by ensuring a better understanding of the building, its capabilities and its infrastructure by all the building users and stakeholders.  Additionally I would like to improve the communications link between the Trust and all the facilities support staff at the Dudley Group.

Background/experience

I have been the Fundraising Manager for the Dudley Group NHS Charity since January 2010.  I hold high the view that a patient’s positive experience can greatly affect their well being and recovery. My role puts me in a great position to be able to talk to members of the public about their experiences and to also liaise with staff with regards to any key issues they may have. As a Governor representing non-clinical staff I would use these skills to ensure we get the same opportunities to have our say. The non-clinical staff play such an important role for the smooth running of our Trust; ensuring we have a voice with regards to our roles is vital. I recognise the importance of not only listening to my colleagues views but equally of passing those views on to the appropriate people. Having influence can only be of use if you make an impact. I believe I am a friendly approachable ambassador for my
