Local Stourbridge charity donates to Trust Charity

Stourbridge Ileostomy Association is a small local charity and support group for people that have undergone ostomy surgery. The charity has worked closely with Dr Anthony Kawesha a consultant and colorectal surgeon at Russells Hall Hospital who identified the need for a specialist rehabilitation chair on ward B4.

The chair allows patients that have undergone extensive colorectal and abdominal surgery to receive active intense therapy, it also allows those patients to have use of the chair to be moved around the hospital away from the ward environment as part of their recovery.

Stourbridge Ileostomy Association, in collaboration with the national Ileostomy and Internal Pouch Association matched funding scheme, kindly donated £4,500 to the Dudley Group NHS Charity’s charitable fund forward B4 towards the cost of the chair which the ward is now utilising.

Halesowen North Santa

Each December, Stuart Henley – Halesowen North Representative and Halesowen North Santa take a Santa sleigh around the streets to bring joy to locals and raise funds for charities. One of the selected charities last December was the Neonatal Unit at Russells Hall Hospital. A generous donation of £500 was presented to the department!

The Tipton Tree of Light Appeal

The Tipton Tree of Light Appeal donated an amazing £600 to The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust Prostate Cancer services. The appeal started over 30 years ago, Ray Brothwood, Honorary President, was one of the instigators and who presented the cheque on the day. Thank you to Keith Hodgkins, Chair of the Tipton Civic Society, for organising the cheque presentation.

John Langford and Pete Wain

John Langford and Pete Wain have raised an incredible £560 for the Georgina Unit at Russells Hall Hospital, in memory of their friend David who died last December.

David was a close friend who they used to write and play music with so they decided to do a charity CD of the songs they had written together to raise money for Prostate Cancer.

They also had a memorial  musical event at the Cross Inn in Kinver where David started an Open Mic there a few years back and they have inherited the event. It was well attended by loads of local musicians, as David was a very much respected local musician in their area.

The PS Olympic Under 9’s Girls

The PS Olympic Under 9’s Girls have raised an amazing £1,829 for our Children’s ward!

In the summer, the girls secured a very generous sponsor. This meant that they did not need to fundraise for themselves throughout the year, so the coaches, parents and players decided that they wanted to make a positive impact to their local community. After a ballot, they voted to support The Dudley Group NHS Charity throughout the 2023/24 season.

Waldrons Solicitors

Staff from the Neonatal Unit were happy to welcome Waldrons Solicitors while they were at Russells Hall Hospital to make a presentation of the proceeds of their 2023 Will Campaign. They were pleased to tell us that all appointments were filled and they raised £5,270 to our charity.

Lynsey Morris

Thank you to Lynsey Morris, a nurse in our Emergency Department, who raised over £750 in memory of her brother Grant. The proceeds from her Skydive will go towards a refurbishment of Grants Room – a break out space for children within the Children’s Emergency Department.
