Parkinson’s Service

Dudley now has a Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist. The service provides:

  • Someone to talk to about Parkinson’s and to try to answer questions you may have.
  • Provide home visits to provide a better, more relaxing environment to discuss any problems.
  • Explain and advise on drug treatments available.
  • Liaise with your GP and hospital consultant to ensure you are getting the best treatment.
  • Teach other health & social care workers about Parkinson’s.
  • Provide support and advice if you are admitted to hospital for any reason.
  • Refer onto other therapies if appropriate, for example, physiotherapy, social services.
  • Help with information on day care and respite care.
  • Provide support for relatives and carers.
  • Help and advice regarding aspects of daily life.
  • Help provide you with information on accessing benefits.
  • Provide information on local support groups for both the person with Parkinson’s and their relatives and carers.
  • Provide a specialist Parkinson’s clinic.

Referral to the Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist will be accepted from all health & social care professionals, people with Parkinson’s themselves and relatives, friends or carers. Consent must be given by the person who is being referred.

Referrals will be accepted via a letter or telephone call. Please include all relevant information when referring, details of this are available in the Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist Operational Policy.

Service times

  • Monday to Friday – 08.30-16.30

Messages should be left on the office answering machine. For out-of-hours or emergency calls, contact your GP or district nurses.
